Şeyhandede

Şeyhandede is a neighbourhood in the municipality and district of Çermik, Diyarbakır Province in Turkey. Its population is 435 (2022). The name Şeyhandede translates as “The Sheikhs of the Dede”, and in Zazaki, it is expressed as “Şêxanê Dedan.” The origin of this name dates back to the 12th century and is associated with a prominent spiritual figure known as Sheikh Ağbaş, referred to locally as “Babadede.” His full title was Taha wa Āl-i Yāsīn, Qutb al-ʿĀrifīn Sheikh Sayyid Ağbaş bin Sheikh Abu Saʿd al-Hasrani.
